Umbrella Street – Old Town Fethiye

Fethiye offers a fascinating mix of ancient tradition, rich culture and modern influences. You’ll find ancient Lycian ruins scattered around the town, with historic attractions such as the ancient Kings Tombs.

Fethiye is located on the water front with a harbour at one end, opening it’s doors to the rich and famous arriving on super yachts while also a working fishing harbour too. There’s also a regular passenger ferry service to the near by Greek island of Rhodes. Stroll along the water front promenade from the harbour, past an abundance of water front restaurants, cafes and bars. Continue walking along the waters edge for some time and you’ll find yourself in the neighbouring resort of Calis Beach if you chose to.

Step away from the waters edge and at the far end of the town you’ll find yourself amidst a maze of cobbled back streets filled with traditional shops selling spices, Turkish delight, tapestries, souvenirs, jewellery, clothes and accessories. This is Paspatur, also known as the Old Town.

The famous umbrella street leads you into the more modern part of Fethiye with it’s high street shops, restaurants and bars.

Fethiye is home to one of the areas largest markets. Every Tuesday folk gather together to sell an array of good from the ‘Genuine Fake’ handbags and clothes through to household items and fruit and veg. For a unique experience, venture into the Fish Market which is open daily. Haggle for your freshly caught fish and seafood and have one of the many restaurants prepare and cook this to your liking.

Fethiye is a popular holiday destination for year round visitors as it’s not seasonal like it’s neighbouring resorts. Accommodation in Fethiye tends to be more city hotel style with harbour views and roof top terraces. Temperatures in the height of summer in Fethiye can be somewhat higher than surrounding coastal areas, this is one of the reasons why it attracts many visitors in the winter months. Fethiye is a must see town and easy to reach while staying in resorts such as the near by Calis Beach, Ovacik, Hisaronu or Ölüdeniz.
